Summary
- Integration
- A decade connecting systems that were never built to talk to each other: CRMs, ERPs, gateways, credit bureaus, public and private APIs. With retry, reconciliation and error handling.
- Migration
- Data, services and applications moved between systems without stopping operations, in healthcare, credit, e-commerce and construction. User bases, entire servers, REST APIs turned into GraphQL, and a Node.js application rewritten in Rails with parity proved.
- Automation with agents
- Ingestion, integration and synthesis of information into a decision, with the model in the middle of the path. The focus stays on the constraints, the guarantees and the cost control.
Work experience
Senior Ruby on Rails engineer, integrations team (Contract via Toptal)
Healthcare and e-commerce platform (US/Canada)
- Built and maintained the integrations with external clinical labs, from order submission to result ingestion, with HL7 messaging and webhook forwarding with retry and idempotency.
- Adapted the platform after the acquisition of another company, mapping the data models and reconciling flows with both product lines in operation.
- Automated the data collection on partner lab portals with a bot, work that until then was done by hand by the operations team.
- Built the ingestion and interpretation of PDF lab results with a language model, and the tool that lets a clinician adjust the prompt that identifies biomarker and unit of analysis.
- Typed the integration code with Sorbet, moved heavy processing to Sidekiq, and used Row-Level Security and hypertables in PostgreSQL.
Software engineer (Project)
Consumer credit fintech (Brazil)
- Built the credit analysis and origination engine end to end: from raw data to the automated decision to grant a loan or not.
- Integrated Serasa and several public and private APIs of the Brazilian financial system, and built from scratch the BigQuery data lake behind the analysis.
- Implemented the tracking and management of contracts after disbursement, including installment control.
Senior back-end engineer (Contract via Toptal)
Global B2B freight SaaS
- Maintained and evolved, as lead developer, the Rails engine attached to the e-commerce application.
- Introduced structured logging and fixed hard-to-detect bugs in the freight rate calculation.
- Raised test coverage on a legacy application to make deploys reliable.
Full-stack developer (Contract via Toptal)
Healthcare e-commerce (US/Canada)
- Designed and implemented the back-end architecture of an e-commerce platform moving to Ruby on Rails and React.
- Migrated user bases and history between platforms preserving data integrity, with cross-platform authentication working for several cohorts throughout the transition.
- Optimized SQL queries and GraphQL endpoints until complex queries and data imports met the response SLA.
Rails developer (Contract via Toptal)
Consumer credit fintech (US)
- Migrated an entire Node.js application to Rails 7 preserving the business logic, with the system live the whole time.
- Implemented request replay and a per-API switch to prove behavior parity between the legacy and the new version before flipping it.
- Synchronized shards between the primary database and a shadow database to validate the migration by backtest in production.
Rails developer (Contract via Toptal)
Pathology lab (US)
- Ran the root cause analysis of an application that became unstable after a server migration from Ubuntu 16 to Ubuntu 20.
- Fixed the application's bundle environment in the Ansible and NGINX provisioning.
- Migrated and synchronized 1.2 TB of files between the old server and the new one.
Senior Ruby on Rails developer (Contract via Toptal)
Healthcare staffing platform (US)
- Built the data ingestion and enrichment API, integrating with a third-party API to feed the product's database.
- Led the root cause analysis of performance problems and edge cases, producing the investigation documents and the task breakdown for the team.
- Ran the Rails 4.2 to 5.0 and 5.0 to 5.1 upgrades on a production application.
Head of Product
Construction industry software
- Joined with a team of five and left with more than forty. The company was acquired by an ERP vendor in the construction market.
- Rewrote the platform from an initial sketch and led the front end from Angular 1 to Vue with Vuetify.
- Built the public API of the construction management system, with business integration to the main ERPs in the construction market.
- Migrated the legacy REST API to GraphQL, replacing controller logic with a services and adapters architecture.
- Automated deploys with a CI/CD pipeline on Circle CI and Bitbucket Pipelines.
Full-stack developer
Digital marketing platform
- Built the social media publishing automation engine, with scheduling for LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook.
- Refactored the legacy keyword ranking dashboard with a serverless architecture on AWS Lambda and Fargate, and built the integration with the cost-per-keyword data provider.
- Prepared the platform for internationalization, integrating with a translation hub to manage the process at scale.
- Did investigative technical support and acted as the bridge between product and customer.
